Modification Tools

Modify

Object Modification is the process of changing the physical characteristics of the original curves or solids.

Some commonly used modification tools are outlined below and occur frequently throughout this guide.

Trim

Modify | Trim | Trim

The Trim tool trims lines, arcs of circles to a defined boundary edge.

The keyboard SHIFT key is used to select multiple objects and can be used to add or remove objects to the selection.

Extend

Modify | Trim | Extend | [Extend Dynamically]

This modification tool allows a line or arc to be shortened or extended in the same plane by dragging the pointing device to a suitable position.

A specific extension distance can be provided by selecting the Extend to Distance option.

In the example below, the angled center line is being extended beyond the edge of the outer circle. The planar geometry of the line is maintained.

Segment at Location

Modify | Trim | Segment at Location

This trim tool breaks a line into segments at indicated points. The segments remain intact.

In the example below, the line is broken at the points indicated using the Segment at Location tool.

Duplicates

In the example below, the entire collection of curves was selected for repair.

The line is divided into 3 segments at the points indicated above.

Offset Curve

Modify | Trim | Offset Curve

This tool is similar to the Parallel Line tool but allows the offsetting of arcs and circles as well as lines.

A fixed offset value can be input, which remains fixed until changed by the user.

Repair Curves

This tool provides an integrity check of all gaps and duplicates in a collection of curves. In the example below, points 1 and 2 contain duplicates of the same object which are concealed in most views.

Modeling features such as extrusions and lathes cannot be performed when duplicates and gaps appear in the profile and such errors cannot be easily found when there are multiple curves.

In the example below, the line does not connect to the circle by a distance of .250, therefore when the tolerance is set to anything above .250, it shows a gap to repair.

Fillet Two Lines

Modify > Fillet > Fillet Two Lines

The Fillet tool creates an arc or radius between 2 lines, circles or arcs to a specific radius. In the example below, 2 diagonal points are selected. These points can be selected in any order.

Chamfer Angle

Modify | Fillet | Chamfer Angle

The Chamfer tool creates a beveled edge at a specified distance between 2 non-parallel lines.

In the example below, a chamfer is created by selecting the diagonal points on the horizontal and vertical lines.

Eye Dropper

Select Deep > Eye Dropper

This tool is used to harvest the properties of one object (source) and apply all or selected properties to another (destination).

In the example below, the Eye Dropper tool is used to adopt the properties of the hatch/fill pattern, shown by the dropper.

One or more regions can be selected, the properties of which will be adapted from the source object, shown below.

Tape Measure

Select Deep > Tape Measure

This information tool measures the length and angle of specified points. The information is presented in the edit fields at the top of the editor, and in an information tag, shown below.
