Rendering

Rendering is the means by which solid objects are shaded, contoured and colored to create photorealistic results.

OpenGL – a fast interactive rendering, and Raytrace – a slower, more detailed rendering – provide elements of contouring, shadowing and reflectance to objects which are otherwise rendered as a simple static part.

The shading is calibrated to the object’s view in the editor, and shadows and reflectance correspond to the object’s relationship to the WorkPlane.

To render the part to the user-defined settings, select the User-Specified tool in the toolbar shown above, then left click in the editor.

By selecting the options in the edit bar, a shadow and reflectance can be shown, relative to the WorkPlane.

In the example below left, the Shadow On and Drop Shadow options are activated.

To render the part to the user-defined settings, left click anywhere in the editor.

In the example below, the Shadow On and Drop Shadow and Drop Reflectance options are activated.

PhotoRender Settings

All render modes can be fine-tuned to calibrate the settings such as HDRI, Flare and Illumination settings. These are global settings and apply to all rendered objects.

To calibrate the render settings, select PhotoRender Settings from the toolbar above.

Sketch Rendering is a render tool designed to provide a variety of finishes suitable for conceptual design or artistic purposes.

In the example below, the toy is rendered using the Cartoon render mode, providing rich color and distinct edges.

Oil Painting

This sketch render mode produces a rough-surface render, similar to an oil painting done on canvas.

The shape of the brush stroke is slightly circular, and the scale of the stroke can be adjusting according to the part rendered.

The ‘smudge’ or blend scale can be adjusted in the Options window.

Color Wash

This creates a simplified, pastel-colored rendering. The edges of the part are drawn, with a pale, graduated space between the lines.

The line color and width as well as the degree of mottling and wash can be adjusted in the Options window.

Mosaic

This sketch render replicates the appearance of a hand-tiled object using a small, regular-shaped tile. The parameters of the mosaic pattern such as the settings for tile gap width, the spacing between the tiles, the tile size and the tile shape can be adjusted in the Options window.

Stipple

This sketch render is similar to paintbrush stippling whereby each stipple is produced by an irregular-shaped dot.

The dot count and the color can be adjusted in the Options window, with the option to use the object’s color as the stipple color.

Rough Pencil

This is a highly conceptual output, usually created as part of an initial design process. The pencil follows the natural contours of the part, slightly exaggerating intersections and convergences.

The line thickness and curvature of the line can be calibrated in the Options window.

Edit Bar

Each Sketch Render option can be calibrated according to the part to be rendered.

Select the Sketch Render option, then select Options from the edit bar.

In the example below, the Mosaic sketch render is selected and the Options window is used to calibrate the settings for tile gap width, the spacing between the tiles, the tile size and the tile shape.
