Local Face Operations

This modification feature allows modeling control over the faces of solids.

When faces are modified, all edges and curves remain associated to the manipulated face.

Some examples are shown below.

Push/Pull

Modify | Solid Direct Edit | Push/Pull

This tool allows for the planar extrusion of a face of a solid, either as a quick modeling function, or by a specific extrusion height/depth.

In the example below, the face of the solid is selected for single direction resizing.

Resizing the block along the x axis

Draft Face

Modify | Solid Direct Edit | Draft Face

This modification tool aligns faces about an edge by referencing a face.

In the example below, the draft angle is set to 0 in the edit field. The reference face is shown by point 1.

The faces to draft are shown by points 2 and 3, holding down the SHIFT key to select both faces.

Point 4 is shown as the draft neutral position.

Draft angle set to 0

In the illustration below, the same method to that used above is used, but the draft angle is set to 30.

Draft angle set to 30

Match Face

Modify | Solid Direct Edit | Match Face

This tool creates an alignment between 2 faces in different planes, extending or adjusting the first selected face to align into the same plane as the second.

In the example below, the 2 inner faces are select to align.

The face shown as point 1 is selected first.

Identical parts in a non-parallel plane

The part is extended by the face to align into the same plane as the second face, shown below.

Part modified by extending face, top

By turning the view to Top, the faces are shown aligned in the same plane, having extended the face of the first part.

Faces shown extended and aligned

Move Face

Modify | Solid Direct Edit | Move Face

This modification tool adjusts the part by moving a selected face to a new position.

All edges and vertices remain associated to the selected face, shown as point 1 below.

In the illustration below center, the first point of the move is shown by point 2; the next point of the move is shown by point 3 below.

The result is shown below.

Offset Face

Modify | Solid Direct Edit | Offset Face

A part can be adjusted by offsetting a face by a positive or negative value.

In the illustration below, the face shown as point 1 is extended forwards by 20.

In the illustration below, the face shown as point 1 is foreshortened by 30 by inputting a negative offset value. (-30)

Remove Face

Modify | Solid Direct Edit | Remove Face

A part is modified by removing one or more faces, extending or truncating adjoining faces and edges.

In the example below, the face shown by point 1 is selected for removal.

The result is shown below right.

Deformations

SharkCAD Pro only

Dome

Pressure deform

Modify | Solid Direct Edit | Dome

The face of a solid can be modified by applying a uniform pressure load to the surface of a solid. This is referred to as Deformable Modeling.

In the example below, a positive gain is given on the top face of the solid.

In the example below, negative pressure is applied to the top face.

Factors which influence the result of pressure load on a facet are :

Gain : The total pressure applied over a specified area.

Stretch : Controls the flexibility factor.

Bend : Controls the torsion (twisting) value to prevent sharp edges.

Resolution : Controls the internal matrix (grid) to allow for a higher or lower degree of flexure.

The calibrations above are controlled in the Inspector. Examine some of the modifications made to the face of the solid.

Worked Example

Start a new drawing then right click in the editor and set the view to Isometric.

Draw a circle with a radius of 50.

Extrude this circle to a height of 15, with a draft angle of 30.

In this example, a Gain of 2500 is applied to the top face of the solid. A Stretch and Bend factor of 2 is applied with a Resolution of 70. The No Tangency option is selected.

No Tangency

Gain of 2500; no tangency

Shared Faces Curvatures

In the example below, a Gain of 2500 is applied to the top face of the solid. A Stretch and Bend factor of 2 is applied with a Resolution of 70. The Shared Faces Curvatures option is selected.

Gain of 2500; Shared Faces Curvature

Shared Faces Tangent

In the example below, a Gain of 2500 is applied to the top face of the solid. A Stretch and Bend factor of 21 and 18 respectively is applied with a Resolution of 70. The Shared Faces Tangent option is selected.

Gain of 2500; Share Faces Tangent

In the example below, downward (negative) pressure of 50 is applied to the face shown by the arrow.

The result is shown below.

Negative gain, no tangency

Deform to Point

Modify | Solid Direct Edit | Dome | Deform to Point

Allows the surface or face of an object to be deflected using a point or series of points.

curve deform

Modify | Solid Direct Edit | Dome | Curve Deform

Allows the surface or face of an object to be deflected using a sketch constraint object.
