Animation Lab 6.0 – Quick Start Guide

Animation Lab 6.0 creates animations from your TurboCAD drawings. It is a plug-in that runs inside
TurboCAD
— there is no separate program and no desktop icon.

1. Check you can run it

You need TurboCAD Windows 2019–2026, in Platinum, Professional or Deluxe edition.
Animation Lab cannot be used on its own.

2. Install

Close TurboCAD, then run the installer as administrator (right-click ▸ Run as administrator).

The installer asks for a serial number. Your licence key is one line with two halves separated by
a semicolon — the serial is the part before it:

KP93-4793-7873-7340;14BB-555F-4733-11E9
└──────── serial ────────┘└──── activation code ────┘

If Windows offers to install a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime, allow it.

3. Turn it on inside TurboCAD

Start TurboCAD and go to:

Tools ▸ Customize ▸ Palettes — tick AnimationLab v6.0, then Close.

You are asked for the activation code here — that is the part of your key after the semicolon.

The palette opens. It is not on any ribbon tab, which is where most people look first.

4. Make your first animation

The palette has an actor list (the objects being animated) and a frame timeline. It starts
empty.

  1. Draw a circle and a rectangle, then save the file — Animation Lab needs a saved
    drawing.
  2. Switch to the 3D Selector — required even for 2D objects — and select only the circle.
  3. Click Create Actor from Selection. The circle appears in the actor list with an empty row of
    key frames.
  4. Highlight key frame 0 and click Record Key Frame.
  5. Move the circle somewhere else, then record that position at key frame 5. Repeat for a few
    more positions.
  6. Click Play Scenario.

Animation Lab renders each frame and builds the movie. TurboCAD will not respond while it does
this — that is normal, not a crash.

5. Find your animation

By default it is written to:

Documents\My Animations\<drawing name>.avi

6. Faster still — one-click presets

You do not have to build anything. Click and hold the Play Scenario button and pick a preset —
Examine, Orbit Horizontal, Panorama and others. Animation Lab adds a camera, films your
model and produces the movie on its own.

Five things worth knowing early

Use the 3D Selector Even for 2D objects. Otherwise Create Actor from Selection does nothing, silently.
Save before animating And note that playing a part-finished scenario leaves your drawing in the animation’s end state.
Scenarios live in the drawing Save the drawing and you save the animation. Reopen it and your actors are still there.
Shrink the window to render faster It does not reduce output quality — the size comes from the Options settings, not your window.
Long renders Turn off the Windows screen saver and power saving first; they can interrupt a long run.

If something goes wrong

"I installed it but can’t find it." It has no desktop icon and is not on a ribbon tab. Use
Tools ▸ Customize ▸ Palettes and tick AnimationLab v6.0.

"My key is invalid." A valid Animation Lab 6 key looks like
KP93-4793-7873-7340;14BB-555F-4733-11E9. If yours does not match that shape, it is not an Animation
Lab key — contact support with your order number for a replacement.

"It keeps asking for a serial number." The serial is the half before the semicolon and belongs
to the installer; the activation code is the half after, entered when you tick the palette.

Where to go next

  • The full guide covers both animation editors, paths and cameras, sound, stereoscopic 3D,
Montage Center, batch operations and all the Options settings.
  • The command reference documents every scenario command with syntax and parameters.
  • The complete manual is installed with the product — open the AnimationLab help from the
palette for the full reference, plus a folder of worked sample animations you can open and
    pick apart.

Contact IMSI Design support with your order number and the exact text of any error message.
