In this Task

  • Part 1 of the final assembly will be created from a pre-drawn sketch.
  • Layers are created in the sample drawing for each part of the assembly.

Associated Tasks

  • Using Transparency mode.
  • Extruding the profile.

Before you Start

Take Note

  • This model will be name as Part 1 and is a sub-component of a multiple assembly.
  • Layer control is highly recommended when sub-components are being designed simultaneously in the editor.
  • When two separate regions are selected together to create an extrusion, they will form a single unit.

Download and open the sample drawing for this Session.

The Content Explorer contains layers for both the Sketch and Model of Parts 1-5. Activate as current the layer for Part 1 Model. All other layers for Parts 2-5 are deactivated, shown below.

Extrude Solid

This extrusion tool sweeps a 2D profile in a plane perpendicular to the WorkPlane to create a 3D object.
A bi-directional extrusion can be created which creates an equidistant above and below WorkPlane extrusion.
Closed profiles only can be extruded.
When closed objects within the profile are selected as part of the profile, the volume of the extruded inner objects will be subtracted from the primary solid.

When two separate regions are selected together to create an extrusion, they will form a single unit.

Additionally, a common curve can be used to create two separate extrusions, providing the region forms a closed boundary.

In this task, the outer region of the profile shown as region 1 will be extruded to a height of 12. The two regions shown as region 2 will be selected together to form a single unit, then extruded to a height of 48.

From the illustration below left, the common curve shared by both regions is shown.

Set the view to Isometric by right clicking in the editor and selecting View > Isometric.

Select the Extrude Solid tool, activating the Distance option. TAB to the edit field and input a Distance of 12. Hold down the SHIFT key and select the curves shown below, including the inner circles.

The result is shown below, shown in Transparency mode. Position the cursor over the part, right click and select Transparency.

Still in the Extrude Solid tool, TAB to the edit field and input 48. Turn the view to Top, then hold down the SHIFT key and select first one region, then the other.

Both profiles have been extruded to create a single unit, shown below.
