In this Task

• The Lathe tool will be used to revolve a closed profile about an axis which is offset by 13.
• The offset will create a hollow core with a diameter of 26.

Before you Start

• Open the drawing which was saved in the previous Session or use the [sample drawing](https://www.tricad.co.zal/2020-1/SharkCAD/Content/Resources/Drawings/Parts_Assembly._Part 3.sfx) for this Task. More…The sample drawing for this session contains the 2D Sketch and the 3D Model. Frequently, these 2 layers are superimposed. Use the Concept Explorer to control the display of the layers. Create your own layers if you wish to produce the design from scratch or pan to an unused area of the editor.
• View is set to Isometric.

Take Note

• The Lathe tool requires a closed profile to revolve. Gaps in the profile or duplicate lines must be removed prior to creating the solid.

Layer Control

In the sample drawing for this Session, the sketch profile for Part 3 is shown in the editor, below. Before starting with the creation of the model for Part 3, make sure the top-level layers for Parts 1 and 2 are deactivated in the editor, making sure the current layer is activated as Part 3 Model, shown below.

Construction Parallel

Draw | Line | Construction Line (option Construction Parallel)

This tool offsets a line or another construction line to a specified offset distance.

The newly offset parallel line is placed on the Construction layer.

Select the Construction Line tool from the toolbar or use Draw > Line > Construction Line. Use the option drop-down to select the Construction Parallel option.

Input a value of 13, then create an offset from the baseline, shown below.

Lathe

Draw | Solid from Curves | Lathe

A closed sketch region can be used to create a suitable profile which can be revolved about an axis to produce a solid.

The axis of revolution can be offset from the profile to create a hollow center.

Turn the view to Isometric and reduce the zoom slightly. Use the TurboCAD Explorer to activate as current the Model layer for Part 3.

Select the Lathe tool from the toolbar or use Draw | Solid from Curves | Lathe

Use a left-to-right pick window to select the objects which form the closed profile.

At the prompt > select line for lathe axis, select the construction line shown below.

The sketch will revolve around this axis, producing a result similar to the illustration below. Adjust the zoom accordingly.
