In this Task

  • Solid objects can very easily be manipulated in 3-dimensional space. Points of geometry on faces and edges can be used to assemble objects.
  • Part 3 will be assembled onto Part 2. Part 3 will then be moved downwards by a value of 4.

Associated Tasks

  • Object manipulation, moving objects, combining solids.

Before you Start

  • The view is set to Isometric.
  • Part 3 is shown in Transparency mode.

Take Note

  • When combining solids of different color using the Add Solid tool, the color of the first object will take precedence.
  • Views of the objects below have been rotated for illustrative clarity.

Object Manipulation

Solid objects can very easily be manipulated in 3-dimensional space. Points of geometry on faces and edges can be used to assemble objects.

In this task, Part 3 will be assembled onto Part 2. Part 3 will then be moved downwards by a value of 4.

Select Part 3, then using the center of the top face, move this to Part 2, again using the center of the top face to align the parts.

Transform

Modify | Transform | Translate
This transformation tool allows a selection of objects to be relocated in the editor using a source and destination point.
A specific coordinate value can be input as the destination point.
A copy of the selected objects can be obtained by holding down the keyboard ALT key during the move process.

This tool allows a part to be relocated in the editor, inputting a new coordinate if necessary.

In this task, the newly inserted Part 3 will be moved downwards by 4, shown below.

Part 3 to be moved downwards by 4

Select Part 3, then use the Translate tool in the toolbar or use Modify > Transform > Translate. TAB to the dz field and input -4. The result is shown below.

Part 3 moved down by 4

NOTE :

The Gripper can be displayed and attached to the part to move. The distance can be input into the edit field. Enable the Gripper using Modify > Gripper.

Add Solid

Modify | Solid Booleans | Add Solid
This 3D boolean function combines the volume of 2 intersecting or adjoining 3D solids or surfaces.

Using the Add Solid tool, combine Parts 2 and 3 so that the result is similar to the image below.

Parts 2 and 3 combined

Delete the remaining sketch objects from the editor.

Display only Solids

Solid objects and their associated edges can be displayed in the editor, concealing the sketch objects. This is done by right clicking in the editor and selecting Show All > Solids. To return the displaying all objects, including sketch geometry and dimensions, right click and select Show All > All Objects.
