Tangent Constraint

Window | Constraints | Tangent

The tangent constraint applies tangency conditions to 2 or more objects, such as lines, circles or arcs.

In cases where the circle and line are not connected the tangent constraint moves a circle or arc so that it is tangential to a line. The circle always moves to the line; the line never moves to the circle.

In the example below left, all objects are selected using a window selection. Tangent constraints are added at the connection point of the lines and circles. When the circle dimension is updated, shown below right, tangency is maintained between the objects, increasing the size of the lower circle to maintain tangency.

Tangent constraints added to lines and circles. tangency is maintained when the circle size is modified.
