Auto Layer

This organizational tool structures the parts of a model into layers by sorting them into either the same shape or by name.

For example, if a drawing is imported from another modeling file such as STEP etc, the components are frequently assigned a generic name according to the assembly.

In the example below, the Auto Layer tool is used to organize parts into layers associated to their shape.

In the image below, the file is imported, with the all components of the solid placed on a the layer STEP Model. Note : This layer name was changed for instructional clarity.

By selecting Auto Layer from the PowerPack Utilities menu, the same shape option is selected. All the parts of the solid are then selected and layers are created according to the shape similarities, shown in the example below.

In this example, all parts which resemble fasteners or fixings have been assigned to a common layer.

In this example, the layer which contains the newly grouped object was renamed to Fasteners.

This drawing is an assembly of parts created from separate components. All components are the same color.

Select PowerPack | Utilities | Assorted Colors then using a pick window selectionA selection rectangle is placed around a group of objects to be selected., select all the parts in the assembly.

Select PowerPack | Utilities | then select the same shape option.

Select the assembly, then use the Concept Explorer to hide or display layers. The objects which are of a similar shape within the assembly will be placed onto a newly named layer.
