Before you Start

  • Dimensions will be inserted onto a default layer. It is not necessary to create additional layers for annotation features.

  • Save this drawing as Session 2 Sketch at the end of this task.

Dimensions & Center Marks

Annotation detail such as dimensions and center marks can be added to the sketch if necessary.
Annotation is usually added to the Dimension layer, a default layer when starting a new drawing from a template.

Solid modeling designs seldom require annotations such as center lines, however, the 2D sketch of a model can be produced separately as an engineering drawing.

In this task, important dimensions will be inserted and center lines will be added only if relevant.

Use Radial dimensions (diameter, radius) to indicate the sizes of the circles.

Use an Angular dimension to show the angle between the 2 diagonal lines.

Use the Smart dimension tool to dimension to polygon.

Adding dimensions to the sketch

Use the Dimension toolbar to add Center Marks if necessary, shown below. In the example below, center lines were added to the inner circle, with an axis overlap of 45.

Save this drawing as Session 2 Sketch.
