In this Task

• Lines can be lengthened or shortened using the Extend Dynamically tool.
• The Extend tool will be used to adjust the individual lengths of the center lines.

Before you Start

• Make sure correct side of the line being lengthened or shortened is selected.

Take Note

• The line to be lengthened or shortened will always maintain the plane in which it was drawn.

Line Length Modification

Modify > Trim > Extend

This modification tool shortens or lengthens a line to a position specified by the pointing device.

A boundary edge is not required.

The angle of the line will remain the same when the line length is changed.

The Extend tool is useful for lengthening or shortening a line without changing the angle. It is therefore a popular tool to be used when center lines require adjustment.

In this task, the Extend tool will be used to adjust the overall length of the lines which form center lines in the drawing.

Select the Trim > Extend tool from the toolbar or use Modify > Trim > Extend. Set the options to Extend Dynamically, Linear, shown below.

Select the left side of the horizontal line shown below and drag the cursor towards the right, shown below.

Use this tool to shorten the vertical lines so that the result is similar to the illustration below.
