Creating an Arc using Fillet

In this Task

  • Arcs will be fitted tangentially between 2 circles using the Fillet tool.
  • Segments of arcs will be removed using the Trim tool.

  • The ALT keyboard key is used to indicate a ‘no-trim’ option when using the Fillet tool.

Fillet (no trim)

Modify | Fillet | Fillet Two Lines
The Fillet tool creates an arc or radius between 2 lines, circles or arcs to a specific radius.
The fillet tool can be used to create a tangential arc between 2 associated arcs or circles when the ‘no trim’ option is used.
The keyboard CTRL key is used to indicate a ‘no trim’ option.

Select the Fillet tool from the toolbar or use Modify > Fillet > Fillet Two Lines.

TAB to the Radius field and input 15.

Hold down the keyboard CTRL key to indicate a no-trim option.

Select the arc and circle in the approximate positions to those in the illustration below.

Repeat this for the opposite side so that the result is similar to the illustration below.

Trim

Modify | Trim | Trim
The Trim tool trims lines, arcs of circles to a defined boundary edge.
The keyboard SHIFT key is used to select multiple objects and can be used to add or remove objects to the selection.

Select the Trim tool from the toolbar or use Modify > Trim.

Hold down the SHIFT key and select the 2 tangential arcs, shown below.

Release the SHIFT key, then trim the 2 inner circles, selecting positions similar to those shown in the illustration below.
