Creating the initial sketch geometry

In this Task

  • The initial sketch geometry will be produced.
  • Parallel lines will be created from existing lines to create intersections.
  • Concentric circles will be inserted onto the new intersections.

Before you Start

  • Start a new drawing using the Wizard, or use the [sample drawing](https://www.tricad.co.za/2020-1/SharkCAD/Content/Resources/Drawings/Session 3 Sketch%26Model.sfx) for this Task. Create your own layers if you wish to produce the design from scratch or pan to an unused area of the editor.)
  • Follow the instructions below if you wish to start a new drawing.
  • Create a custom drawing using millimeter units.
  • Use a landscape sheet approximately A4 size.
  • Use an Engineering Drawing Scale at 1:1 (full scale)
  • Use an Iso Dimension Format.

Take Note

  • Using Concept Explorer to activate Layer 1 as the current layer.
  • The WorkPlane and Axis have been disabled for 2D drawing. Use View | Show Axis to view/conceal the Axis; use Workplane | Show Workplane to view/conceal the WorkPlane.

Single Line

Draw | Line | Single Line
This sketch tool draws a single line using the edit fields to input the Length and Angle.
The keyboard SHIFT key can be used to constrain lines to 90° angles.
The line will be drawn on the currently activated layer. The Concept ExplorerWindow > Concept Explorer is used to activate a current layer.

Select the Single Line tool from the toolbar or use Draw > Line > Single Line.

To draw the horizontal line, left click in the editor and draw a line which exceeds the overall width of the drawing. Use the edit fields at the top of the screen to do this. When drawing from left-to-right, the angle should be 0 degrees. In the example below, the line was drawn to 150, angle 0.

Draw a new line to represent the left vertical center line. In the example below, the line was drawn from bottom to top to a length of approximately 120.

Parallel Lines

Draw > Line > Parallel
Creates a parallel line at a specified offset distance from an existing line.
The distance is input into the Offset field.
The newly created line is inserted onto the current layer.

Use the Parallel tool to create offsets from the left vertical line at distances of 110 and 130, shown below.

Concentric Circles using Center Point Circle

Draw > Circle > Center Point Circle
This circle tool draws a single circle by defining the center point and diameter.
The diameter can either be defined by selecting a point in the editor, or by inputting a value into the Diameter field.
The diameter of the circle can be changed after insertion by changing the value in the Diameter edit field.

Onto the intersections created by the horizontal and vertical lines, insert circles to the diameter values shown below. Take care to snap the center of the circles to the intersection of the lines, shown below.
