Before you Start

Take Note

  • Part 2 will be drawn in the same drawing as Part 1 so all parts can be assembled at a later stage.
  • Open the drawing which was saved during the previous session. If you have not drawn or saved this drawing, use the Session Sample drawing above.

 

Reorganizing Layers

Layers which contain sketch objects cannot be deleted, however layers can be restructured when new layers are added using the TurboCAD Explorer.

In this task, a new drawing which contains Part 2 will be drawn in the same drawing as Part 1. So that an independent layer structure can be maintained, new top-level layers can be created. Objects can be selected and reassigned to a specific layer structure.

 

Top & Sub-Level Layer Creation

New top-level or sub-level layers can be created at any stage of the design.

Note : This step is not necessary if you are using the sample drawing for this Session.

Using the TurboCAD Explorer, create a new top-level layers named Part 2, shown below.

Right click onto the newly created Part 2 layer and create a New Sublayer. Double click into the name field and name this layer Sketch.

Right click onto the newly created Sketch layer and create a New Sublayer named Dimensions.

Click onto the Part 2 layer, then create a new sub-layer named Model.

The result is shown below.

Creating new top and sub-level layers

Select by Object Type

Right click | Select All | <Type>

Objects which belong to a specific category such as lines and curves, or dimensions and text can be group selected in the editor. In this task, all sketch objects will be selected and placed on the newly created Part 1 > Sketch layer. All dimensions will be selected and placed on the Part 1 > Dimension layer.

Right click in the editor and select Select All > Curves. All sketch objects will be selected and dimensions and solid objects will be excluded. Use the Inspector to move the selected objects to the Part 1 > Sketch Layer.

Right click and deselect all, then repeat this, this time selecting Select All > Text + Dimensions. Place the selected objects on the Part 1 > Sketch > Dimension layer.

Select the solid, then move this to the Part 1 Model layer.

Redundant layers, can be deleted once objects have been moved to new layers.

Layers within the TurboCAD Explorer can be reordered by right clicking onto the layer and using the Move Up or Move Down option.

Initial Sketch Geometry

Set the view to Top, then activate as current the Part 2 Sketch, then zoom to a new empty space in the editor.

Create the initial sketch geometry shown below using Single Lines, Parallel Lines and Circles. In the example below, a horizontal and vertical line is drawn using the Single Line tool.

A Parallel offset of 140 is created using the Parallel Line tool.

Two sets of concentric circles are inserted onto the intersections of the horizontal and vertical line using the Center Point Circle tool.

Tangent Line

Draw | Line | Single Line
Lines can be drawn tangentially to circles providing the Tan/Perp snap modeWindow > Snap Modes is activated.
The LogiCursor provides an automatic attachment to the tangency points.

Using the Single Line tool, draw 2 lines which connect to the tangent points of the circles. An example of the first line is shown below.

 

Create both lines tangent to the outer circles. The result is shown below.

Take Note

Zoom into the tangency connection points to check the connection points of the lines and circles.

Only the objects relating to Part 2 should be displayed in the editor.
