Offset Curve

Modify | Trim | Offset Curve

This tool is similar to the Parallel Line tool but allows the offsetting of arcs and circles as well as lines.

A fixed offset value can be input, which remains fixed until changed by the user.

Select the Offset Curve tool from the toolbar or use Modify > Trim > Offset Curve.

Use the Option in the edit bar to ensure the Offset to Value option is selected, shown above.

TAB to the Offset field and input 10.

Select the first tangential line, then create an offset to the inside of the sketch, shown below.

Repeat this for the remaining 3 tangential lines so that the result is similar to the illustration below.

Fillet with Radius

Modify | Fillet | Fillet Two Lines

A blend can be created between arcs and circles to a defined radius.

The keyboard ALT key can be used to indicate a no-trim option. This option will retain the remaining arcs of the circles after the fillet has been created.

A blend with a radius of 5 will be inserted onto the tangential points of the newly offset lines and the outer circles, shown below.

Select the Fillet Two Lines tool from the toolbar or use Modify Fillet > Fillet > Fillet Two Lines. TAB to the edit field and input 5 into the Radius field.

Hold down the keyboard ALT key to indicate the no-trim option, then create the first blend on the arcs shown below.

Repeat this, continuing to hold down the ALT keyboard key to create a blend on the remaining tangents. The result is shown below.

Trim

Modify | Trim | Trim

The Trim tool trims lines, arcs of circles to a defined boundary edge.

The keyboard SHIFT key is used to select multiple objects and can be used to add or remove objects to the selection.

The trim tool is used to trim away segments of circles and lines which are no longer required. Select the Trim tool from the toolbar or use Modify > Trim > Trim.

Hold down the keyboard SHIFT key, then first select the arcs shown by the pointers below.

Release the SHIFT key, then trim away the line segments, starting with a line similar to that shown below.

Finally, use the Fillet tool to create a radius of 12 on the intersecting lines shown below.
