How to Add a Framing Beam

Estimated reading: 2 minutes 34 views

The Framing Beam tool is used to add structural beams to your building design. Beams are important components that provide support to floors, roofs, and other structural elements. For example, you can use this tool to place a beam under a floor opening, support a deck structure, or reinforce areas that require additional strength. Adding framing beams helps make your design more realistic and structurally complete.

To use the Framing Beam tool, go to the Framing tab in the main toolbar and select the beam option. Before or after drawing the beam, you can adjust its size in the Properties panel by setting the width and depth. You can also choose the beam type, such as Steel, Solid Wood, Built-Up Wood, Laminated Wood, LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber), or PSL (Parallel Strand Lumber). Then click in the drawing area to place the beam and define its length and direction.

Holding the SHIFT key while drawing allows you to remove angle constraints for more flexible placement.

After placing the beam, you can review and adjust its position as needed. In the Framing render mode, beams and their stiffeners become clearly visible in the 3D view. The Framing Beam tool allows you to accurately represent the structural framework of your design, ensuring both visual clarity and construction-level detail.
