How to Apply Excavate Topography

Estimated reading: 1 minute 32 views

The Excavate Topography tool in the Terrain tab is used to remove a portion of the ground surface in your design. It allows you to cut into the terrain to create lower areas such as basements, foundations, sunken patios, or trenches. This tool is especially useful when your building requires part of the land to be dug out below the existing ground level.

To use the Excavate Topography tool, select the Terrain tab and click the Excavate icon. Then click in the drawing area to start placing points that define the area you want to excavate.

Continue clicking to form the shape, and right-click to finish. The excavation depth can be adjusted using the Elevation settings in the Properties panel. You can increase or decrease the depth depending on how much ground you want to remove.

The Excavate tool improves site accuracy by allowing you to model realistic ground cuts. It ensures that foundations and lower-level structures fit properly within the terrain. This makes your design more practical, detailed, and suitable for construction planning.
