How to Add a Framing Joist

Estimated reading: 2 minutes 35 views

The Framing Joist tool is used to add structural joists to your building design. Joists are important components that support floors and ceilings by transferring loads to beams and walls.

For example, you can use this tool to frame a floor system, create ceiling support, or add structural framing for a deck. Adding framing joists helps make your design more realistic and structurally accurate.

To use the Framing Joist tool, go to the Framing tab in the main toolbar and select the joist option. Before or after drawing, you can adjust the joist settings in the Properties panel by setting the joist angle (direction), spacing (distance between joists), and size (width and depth).

You can also choose the material type, such as Wood or Steel, and enable the Rim Joist (Headers) option to automatically add perimeter joists.

Then click and drag in the drawing area to define the joist area and direction. The software will automatically place evenly spaced joists within the selected area. You can modify their position or properties later if adjustments are needed.

After placing the joists, you can review and adjust them as necessary. In Framing render mode, joists become clearly visible in the 3D view. The Framing Joist tool allows you to accurately represent the structural floor or ceiling system of your design, ensuring both visual clarity and construction-level detail.
